I am a pacifist and I say that very proudly. My number one reason for being a pacifist is that Jesus said love your enemies and I'm pretty sure He means we shouldn't gun them down or drop bombs on them. And we all have to agree with that, for love is defined as "affectionate concern for the well-being of others," among other things. I'm not saying we should get the "warm-fuzzies" for our enemies, although I don't even believe warm-fuzzies and butterflies in the stomach is actually love. Honestly, you don't even have to like your enemies. If I had enemies I wouldn't like them at all. Because an enemy is our antagonist and I certainly do not like someone who gets in my way and messes my life up or causes me stress. But luckily Jesus didn't say like your enemies, He said love your enemies. Look out for them. Make sure they are ok. Don't beat them up or give them flack all the time.
Someone told me that Jesus was violent. He said that Jesus turned over the tables of the tax-collectors in the Synagogue. This person said that this could justify a war. And I'm thinking, "say what?" Yeah, Jesus turned over some tables in the Synagogue but He didn't whip out an AK-47 and start gunning the tax collectors down. In the Bible it makes no mention of Him hurting anyone physically. Yes, Jesus got angry, but He doesn't cause anyone harm. Interesting, isn't it?
Have you heard of holy anger? Holy anger is when you get angry and frustrated because of sin and injustice. But there are two things that set holy anger apart from human anger. Holy anger gets mad at sin not the sinner and holy anger is constructive (basically you use it to better mankind not to blow it into pieces).
I believe in holy anger instead of human anger. I believe in making love not war. I believe in peace. I believe in practical, non-violent ways of solving things because there are practical, non-violent ways of solvings things it's just that people are to prideful and lazy to sit down and think of them. Oh, and did I mention that Jesus told us to turn the other cheek. So I guess seeking revenge is out of the question? Ah, pacifism. It's bliss, really. Although I do get a lot of flack for being a pacifist but I stopped caring about what people thought of me a LONG time ago.
